Call Night: Roller Ride on 06/30/2009

Watched a movie while riding my bike on the rollers in the basement. This is the only way I can get a workout in and still be within 20 minutes to the ER. MapMyTri.com - Stationary Bike: On Call Roller Ride on 06/30/2009 Shared via AddThis

Long Training Ride to Tukwilla

Rode over to Alki Beach, then south to SeaTac then east to Southcenter where I discovered the lovely Green River trail. I rode this north to near Boeing field, then cut over to pick up Lake Washington Blvd at the Stan Sayres Pits. After returning home, I ran for another half hour. Uff da! Madison Park and Arboretum Run with Forrest

Forrest and I had a great time counting dogs and birds on our run. The hardest part about this training is the time it takes away from being with him. Combined runs and Dada-Forrest time are a real treat! MapMyTri.com - Regular Run: Regular Run on 06/26/2009 Shared via AddThis

Brick Workout: Biking/Running on 06/24/2009

A "brick" workout in triathalon training is a combination of two or more of the event sports in one workout. Nice ride to Seward Park and back along Lake Washington Blvd, then a run around Madison Park. Felt great! The Original Family Ironman

My father grew up poor in rural North Carolina. After serving in the Marines in Korea, he made his way to Washington. D.C. to attend college on the GI Bill. He then went to work at the ticket counter at United Airlines where he met my mother. During this time, he held down a full time job while taking a full course load. His co-workers agreed to change their schedules so that he could attend classes during the day and work in the evening shift. After completing the swing shift, he would sit down to study until late at night. According to my mother, his coworkers were so impressed with his dedication and hard work that they called him "The Ironman".
I lost my father to a disecting aortic aneurysm in the early months of my residency. His tireless commitment to his family, his marriage and his work are a major source of inspiration to me during this training and I will try to follow his lead during the Ironman race this fall.
Here he is pictured with his little girl, my adorable sister Trisha.

Neighborhood Run.

I cut the run a little short so Laurie could get to yoga. It felt good to be running again after so much swimming and cycling. MapMyTri.com - Regular Run: Regular Run on 06/22/2009 Shared via AddThis

Training RollerRide (On Call Weekend So Home Workouts Only)

Set up my rollers in the basement and watched a movie while riding. Forres was napping and Laurie was at yoga so it was just me and the dogs. Didn't workout yesterday so I will call that my rest day and do Saturday's workout tomorrow. MapMyTri.com - Stationary Bike: ride on 06/21/2009 Shared via AddThis

Early Morning (6AM!) Swim: 1.7 miles

Trying to get a workout in before a weekend on call. I need to complete the 2.4 mile swim in Kona in 2 hours, 20 minutes. Otherwise, me race ends right there at the shore. That would be a major bummer. My pace this morning would get me out of the water in 1 1/2 hours, so I can breathe a little easier :-) MapMyTri.com - Laps / Swimming Pool: Swim on 06/19/2009 Shared via AddThis

Ride Around Lake Washington By Way of Marymoor Park, Then a 30 Minute Run. Pretty tired after 5 straight workout days, including a double workout on Friday. You look pretty comical when you first start running after a long bike ride. Short, choppy steps, like your legs don't know how to change gears. After a few minutes, the old stride kicks back in though. MapMyTri.com - Road Cycling / Mountain Biking: Bike and Run on 06/13/2009 Shared via AddThis
